Sustainable Systems owns and operates an oilseed processing plant in Eastern Montana (Montola), which provides several vegetable oil varieties to the open market for both food and industrial applications. Furthermore, Sustainable Systems promotes the growth of oilseed crops as they provide many positive attributes to our local farmlands and economy.

The Northern Plains region of North Dakota, Montana and South Dakota is a prime growing area for a number of oilseed crops. Growers in the region have produced oilseeds for many years. For example, as an excellent dry land crop, the safflower plant utilizes deeper soil moisture than traditional crops grown in the area. In addition, Canola provides an excellent rotation with small grains to break up weed, disease and pest cycles. New oilseeds and varieties are constantly in the development and production phase to support our growth oriented industry.

Substantial oilseed research has been conducted at the Montana State University Ag Research Center, Sidney, MT. Partnerships with Sustainable Systems are leading to several new oilseed varieties in various stages of development. Oilseeds work well as a rotational crop in row crop and small grain operations. Most oilseed production does not require specialized farm equipment. These fertile plains produce some of the world’s finest oilseed.

We have branded a line of biobased lubricants, biobased fluids and specialty products made from Montana grown oilseeds. These include:

• All purpose penetrating lubricant.
• ECOSEAL Exterior and interior penetrating wood stain, sealer, and water repellent.

Biobased Lubricants, Fluids and Specialty Products

• ISO 32 Hydraulic Fluid - Our environmentally friendly hydraulic oils are made from Montana grown adn processed high oleic vegetable oils. These oils demonstrate superior oxidative stability at high temperatures and therefore make excellent base oils for many products. • Penetrating Lubricant - Our all purpose pentrating fluid is still in the testing stages, but comming soon to the market. This product is a vegetable oil based, non-toxic alternative to petrobased lubricants such as WD-40.
